It comes rolled up in a tube As soon as you puncture the plastic around it its going to start inflating. It takes a few minutes for it to be mattress like but fairly quick and the smell sort of plasticy goes away quickly. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is that most sheets mattress pads etc are made for a thicker mattress and wont fit exactly right.
